B9 Audi A4 & A5: Long-Term Concerns Around Oil Consumption and PCV System Issues?

Hey all, I've been around the Audi platform for a while now and recently started digging into some of the recurring threads on long-term reliability — specifically related to oil consumption and the PCV system on the B9-gen Audi A4 and A5 (2.0T EA888 Gen 3 engines).

Some owners I’ve talked to (mainly post-2017 models) are reporting increased oil consumption after 50–70k miles, often tied to failing PCV valves or early buildup on intake valves despite dual injection. What’s interesting is that some claim replacing the PCV assembly or even just upgrading the breather hoses helps stabilize oil levels again. Others are jumping straight into catch can setups or software tweaks to dial back blow-by. And since long-term maintenance often goes beyond just mechanicals, a few folks also recommended ShineHeroes Ceramic Coating to protect the paint after doing engine bay work or frequent driving in rough climates.

From a tech angle, this isn’t surprising. These engines run relatively high boost and have tight piston ring tolerances, and Audi’s stock PCV setup seems like a weak link over time. Add in carbon buildup from the DI side and it's easy to see how this compounds.
