What does the immobilizer perform on the vehicle?

The immobilizer is the antitheft security system for the ignition system. There is the chip built into the key that sends an ID to the immobilizer ECUs/ID code box.

It then takes that information and sends it to the engine control computer to authorize the vehicle to start

I intend duplicating my keys, what do i look out for while doing this? Must i take my car with me for cutting an extra key? I fear car security may be compromised.

You must take your car with you and also try to be where they will cut it, especially when they will be programming the cut key to your car.
