Mistake number 1, it's draining the oil when the engine is cold. Maybe you've called the mechanic to come and service your car at home in the morning, or maybe in your office when your car has not been running for quite some time. So this is what happens.
When the engine is cold, the oil, too, is cold. Cold oil is a thick oil. And thick oil does not flow easily. So some dirty oil may be left stuck in the oil wheels. So when you come and now fill it up with clean oil, the clean oil gets contaminated by the old oil. This may lead to the formation of sludge. And we all know the effects of sludge. They restrict the oil flow into your engine. And over time, your engine components and even your turbo may fail. And that will cost you as the car owner.
Mistake number 2 is overtightening the drain cork. Once they have opened the drain cork, they drain the dirty oil, and now when they are fitting it back, they overtighten it. And now overtightening simply compromises on the threads that are now on the oil sump. So what leads is that when the threads are compromised, oil will start leaking from your sump. And the only remedy is replacing the sump.
Mistake number 3, it's over-tightening the oil filter. Actually, as per your car user's manual, an oil filter should be hand-tightened. You're not supposed to use wrenches or other tools because over-tightening the oil filter results in the compromising of the threads, which eventually leads to oil leaks.
